Nassau Bay Fire Station

Location:

Nassau Bay, Texas

Services:

Full MEP design, including exhaust fume removal and standby generator system.

Project Scope

Located in Harris County, Texas, directly across from NASA’s Johnson Space Center, this newly constructed volunteer fire department serves as a central hub for fire and rescue services in Nassau Bay and surrounding communities. Designed with a focus on energy efficiency and emergency power capabilities, the facility ensures reliable service even during inclement weather events.

Services

Mechanical Design:
Due to space constraints and a focus on energy efficiency, a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) HVAC system was selected for the fire station. This system allows for the creation of twelve distinct HVAC control zones, ensuring optimal comfort for occupants throughout the facility. Additionally, the truck bay exhaust system is designed to filter the air and remove all exhaust, maintaining a safe and clean environment in the truck bays and surrounding spaces.
Electrical Design:
AOS Engineering collaborated with the fire department to coordinate the facility’s power and lighting needs. In partnership with the local utility company, AOS designed the a new electrical service for the building. To ensure uninterrupted operation during inclement weather, the entire facility is supported by a standby generator, providing reliable backup power.
Plumbing Design:
The plumbing design covered a diverse range of areas. The sanitary and water systems were engineered to serve truck bays, restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, and the kitchen. The sanitary system incorporated a oil/sand interceptor connected to the trench drains in the truck bays and the sump pump in the elevator pit. The kitchen required the installation of a grease interceptor.
